How It Works

How a Dental Implant Replaces a Tooth

A dental implant replaces the root as well as the visible tooth. A titanium post is set in the jawbone, the bone bonds to it, and a crown, bridge or denture is fixed on top.

Many patients are passed between a surgeon who places the post and a dentist who builds the tooth. Here Dr. Silva does both, and Dr. Michael Strassberg treats the gums, so one team follows your case from scan to final bite.

  • Implant PostA titanium root that keeps the jawbone working.
  • RestorationA crown for one tooth, a bridge for several, or a full arch fixed on a few implants.
  • Bone GraftingAutogenous, allogenic or xenogenic grafts rebuild thin bone.
Who It Is For

Who Dental Implants Help

Most adults who have lost a tooth, or are about to, can be considered. Gum health, bone volume and overall health shape the plan.

  • One Tooth

    A Single Missing Tooth

The implant fills the gap without reshaping the healthy teeth beside it.

  • Several Teeth

    A Row of Missing Teeth

Two implants can carry a fixed bridge.

  • Full Arch

    Most Teeth Failing

All-on-X sets a full arch of fixed teeth on a few implants.

  • Dentures

    A Denture That Moves

Implants hold a denture steady while you eat and talk.

  • Before Extraction

A Tooth That Cannot Be Saved

We plan the implant first and can graft the socket at the extraction.

  • Long Gaps

Years Since a Tooth Was Lost

Bone shrinks over time, but grafting can often rebuild it.

Gums First

Our laser and non-surgical periodontal treatments clear gum disease before any post goes in.

Planned in 3D Before Anything Is Placed

Your scan is taken down the hall from the chair where your implant is placed, with no imaging trip elsewhere.

  • Vatech CT ScanShows bone height, width and density, plus the nerve and sinus, so each post is placed around them.
  • iTero ElementA digital scan that replaces impression putty and shapes your new teeth.
  • The WandComputer-controlled anesthetic at a slow, steady rate.
  • Conscious SedationFor anxious patients or longer visits.

Dr. Silva is very knowledgeable and easy to speak with. I went for a second opinion on implants, she studied the X-rays and was able to give me her opinion at that appt.

What to Expect

Our Implant Process, Step by Step

Timing depends on your bone, your gums and how many teeth are replaced. Most single implants take a few months from placement to final tooth.

Our dentist examining an older patient in a treatment chair during a dental visit
  1. Consultation and 3D Scan

We examine your teeth and gums and take a CT scan. You leave knowing the plan, its order and its cost.

  2. Groundwork

Gum disease, extractions and bone grafts come first when needed.

  3. Implant Placement

With the area numbed, and sedation if you choose it, the post is set in the bone. Expect tenderness for a few days.

  4. Healing

Over a few months the bone bonds to the post, with a temporary tooth in the meantime.

  5. Your Final Teeth

We scan with the iTero, then fit your crown, bridge or full arch to your bite. Regular cleanings keep it healthy.

FAQ

FAQ About Implant Dentists in Pottstown, PA

What patients ask before starting treatment.

How much do dental implants cost in Pottstown?

There is no flat price, because the number of implants, any graft and the restoration all change the total. Your plan is priced after your CT scan.

Which type of dentist places dental implants?

Oral surgeons, periodontists and general dentists with implant training all place implants. Dr. Silva holds a Fellowship from the American Dental Implant Association and both places and restores them.

What should I know before getting dental implants?

Healing takes a few months while the bone bonds to the post. Smoking and some health conditions affect healing, so we review your health history first.

Does getting a dental implant hurt?

The area is fully numbed before we start, and conscious sedation is available if you feel anxious. Expect some tenderness for a few days after placement.

Can I get a second opinion on an implant plan?

Yes. Dr. Silva reviews your scans and the plan you were given, then explains where she agrees or would plan differently.
