Chances are, your dentist has told you on multiple occasions to brush twice daily, floss, and not to eat a lot of candy (or any at all!) It’s not that us dentists are trying to take all the fun out of eating, however it’s important to know what food is okay for your teeth and what food you should really stay away from.
Take a look at this list of the seven worst foods for your teeth.
- Ice: While there isn’t any added sugar in ice, chewing on hard substances can damage your tooth enamel and leave your teeth susceptible to dental emergencies.
- Dried Fruit: Despite the health benefits of dried fruit, it is tough on teeth, sticking in crevices.
- Bread: White bread and other starches transform into a sweet, soft paste while you’re eating it. It inevitably ends up sticking in the crevices between your teeth.
- Alcohol: Alcohol causes dry mouth, which allows for cavities.
- Sour Candy: Sour candy is highly acidic. The highly acidic content can break down tooth enamel.
- Soda: Everyone knows soda is bad for their teeth because of the acid and sugar. Both are terrible for your enamel.
- Beets and Berries: While it may be unexpected to see these foods on this list, hear us out. These foods are hyper-pigmented, and can deposit color on your teeth while you’re eating, which takes away from a white smile!
