Getting children to brush their teeth is a battle at times and can drive some parents mad; however, given the right circumstances and a little bit of coaching, you can turn a dreaded activity into one of the most favorite times of the day. Brushing twice daily is the what dentists all over recommend but this is extremely important for children because it is when they start to develop those habits that follow them the rest of their lives. Tooth decay is one of the most common problems among children, and altering their brushing habits to incorporate this twice-daily necessity can benefit them for the rest of their lives.
Dentists recommend 2-3 minutes of brushing, and incorporating a song that plays while they brush will help them set the pace and ensure they brush for the entire time. Electric toothbrushes are another great tool to help children keep pace and stay focused for the entire time. Children learn a lot from their parents and/or older siblings; remember that they are watching and to set the right example for them to emulate. Children love to play games, so incorporating a game into the tooth brushing routine can make brushing their teeth an activity they look forward to during their morning and evening routines. Remember to praise your children to reinforce those good habits they are developing, so that they can bring those good hygiene habits forward with them.
